The 50th Anniversary Worship Celebration of Henderson Presbyterian Church

The service starts at 9:15 AM with a flag service and worship begins at 9:30 AM. This is one service with communion in the first of a two-part service. Hopefully you have read and heard much about this service with the worship lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Sunday, November 11, 2007

Preacher Doyel will hold forth about church stewardship and upon those who have watched over their country on Veteran’s Day. Son on this day, we will "Thank God" and veterans for what we have in our midst.

Sunday, November 18, 2007

Our own seminary student, Lee Styer, will speak. This will be one of the last times you will get to hear him deliver the word. Please read Ephesians 1:1-23 and Psalm 111 before the service to prepare for the sermon, "Words of Thanks." Time is running out to hear him as his internship ends at the end of December. Be Here!!

Sunday, November 25, 2007

Parson Doyel will hold forth on the church year. Yes, this Sunday, the one before the Advent Sundays, starts the church year. Let’s take a look together at the seasons, colors, and special tidings of the church—how the seasons came about and what they signify—Advent, Lent, Easter, the Ascension, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday to name a few. Come be with us!

AND

This Sunday is also the day the congregation helps decorate the church for Advent/Christmas. Everyone is needed right after the 2nd service at 11:30 AM to help set up lights, trees, ornaments, and wreaths. We need your help!!

Coming December 2, 2007 11th Annual St. Andrew’s Service, see inside for more details.

Operation Christmas Child

Our church is participating in Operation Christmas Child, a unique mission project undertaken by Samaritan’s Purse. This project "brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love." Please consider making a special shoe box gift for a boy or girl. Bring it to the church between Nov. 12 and 18 so that it can be dropped off to the collection site on the 19th. There are sample shoe box gifts in the library so that you can see how to make one, or follow these simple steps:

  1. Use an empty, standard size shoe box or a small plastic container. You can wrap the box and lid separately, but wrapping is not required. Put a rubber band around the gift to keep it closed. Please do not wrap gifts shut.
  2. Decide if your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category (2-4, 5-9, or 10 – 14). Mark the gender and age category on the lid of the box.
  3. Fill with gifts. Ideas include school supplies (solar calculator, crayons, markers, writing pads, small books); toys (small cars, balls, dolls with clothes, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, jump ropes, a Slinky®, include batteries for gifts that need them); hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, comb or brush, wash cloths, etc.); hard candy (double bagged); clothing, ball caps, watches, etc.

When building your packages, please do not include : used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items; or aerosol cans.

There is much more information about operation Christmas Child at the church. Pick up a brochure in the narthex or hallway outside the library.

The information in this request is furnished by Samaritan’s Purse, www.samaritanspurse.org

Stewardship

Stewardship letters have been mailed, hope you have received yours with your pledge card. I would like to do something different this year. I would like you to come forward with your pledge card on Stewardship Sunday and drop them in a basket on the communion table. However, if you have already turned in your card, you can stay seated. Please!! Fill out a pleadge card if you want envelopes. This is important for accounting, whether it is a pledge or gift, it is important!
