November—A Month of Special Events

Sunday, November 6, 2005

Come and partake of communion and hear of the Church Triumphant. Lend your soul to ours as all of us prepare for entrance into the Celestial Cathedral.

Sunday, November 13, 2005

Once again, come and hear him. Carl Leiner will be with us to preach one of his dynamic and spirit-filled sermons!

Sunday, November 20, 2005 The Annual Saint Andrew’s Service

Yes! Be with the Congregation for the 9th Annual Saint Andrew’s Service, a celebration of the Scottish roots of the worldwide Presbyterian Church! Pipers, dancers, Mr. Edgar Clanachan’s singing, and the majestic ancient ceremony of the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan will all take place. There will be traditional Scottish foods served, along with a host of gracious smiles. If you know your Tartan colors, come and stand with the others in their kilts. This year Preacher Doyel has decided to touch on the life of a very famous Scottish Presbyterian minister, the Reverend Doctor Peter Marshall. While many of you may not have heard of him, his life and prayers will serve as an inspiration for you and yours. Come and be with us for the Saint Andrew’s Service this day!

Dinner is at 6:00 PM (optional) and is followed by worship at 7:00 PM. Then, join your fellow Presbyterians for a marvelous play about the church and the world.

Where? First Presbyterian Church

1515 West Charleston Boulevard

Cost? Just $5.00 per person for dinner

This will be a wonderful time for all of us to share.

After 12 years of incredible service, Barbara Sylvis has stepped down as Youth Leader of our church. Barbara has been an inspirational and enthusiastic mentor and friend to our youth and we will miss her greatly. Please join me in thanking Barbara for all of her time, caring, and effort. With sincere good wishes, Sue Lednicky

Our church now has two special funds. One is the Church Renovation Fund. This fund has been established by the Session to offset the cost of needed interior and exterior repairs and replacements. If you have questions concerning this fund, contact Building and Operations Chairman Rick Miller, and if you can help, please write "FUND" on your check and place it in the offering plate.

The second newly established fund is the New Sign Fund. This fund has been established to pay for new signage on all corners of the grounds of our church property. Approximately $10,000 will be needed for this project. If you are able to help, please put "SIGN" on your check and place it in the offering plate. For more information on this project please contact Membership Chairman Chris Holman.

Christian Education News

Looking for a rewarding volunteer activity? LOOK NO FURTHER! We are looking for individuals to fill the following positions:

We have great kids in this church, and as soon as you get to know them you will fall in love with them. I am willing to help anyone who wishes to take on either of the jobs. You need to love children, be organized, and be willing to depend on others’ expertise. Please see Sue Lednicky or call 566-0755 or 234-6545. The Chidren’s Christmas Pageant will be held on Sunday, December 11th at both services. Practice for the play will be held during the 10:30AM service every Sunday morning beginning October 23rd (except for St. Andrew’s Sunday, November 20th). If you want your children to be in the play, please bring them for practice every Sunday. All children are welcome!! Tots and toddlers do not need to come to practice, but can go to the nursery instead.

We will hold a special rehearsal for the play on Friday, December 9th from 6 PM to 8 PM. Dinner and drinks will be provided for the children. Again, tots and toddlers do not need to come to this practice. If you would like them to attend, you will need to stay and supervise them. Thanks!

Special thanks go out to Mr. Chris Holman who has graciously offered to teach the youth Sunday school classes. Hooray for Chris!!!
