The Mountain
I will climb that mountain so high and tall
I will climb its shear walls
I will not stop I will not fail
For I will prevail
On to the top I must climb
For this mountain is mine
And when I reach the very top
Only then I will stop
I will drop upon my knees
Raise my hands up to Heaven above
And thank our Lord for all
His love and His strength
And for giving me the will
To climb this mountain so high and tall
And that I may share it with one
And all

Session Meeting Minutes

May 18, 2004

The Session met in quorum in the Fireside Room of Henderson Presbyterian Church. The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:05 p.m. by the Moderator, Reverend Ross Doyel. Active Elders present were Karen Rood, Paul Millholland, Jim LaVeck, Chris Holman, Larry Ferguson, Ellen Walsh, Jason Williams, and Sue Lednicky. Sandy Willson and Howard Null were excused. Special guest, Deacon Jennifer Holman.

  1. Opening Prayer–Mission Yearbook: After the opening prayer, Rev. Doyel read a selection from the Mission Yearbook.
  2. Deacon’s Report: The April 6 Deacon’s meeting minutes were approved. Jennifer Holman addressed the Session on behalf of the Deacons. They requested the Deacons be permitted to do some cleaning and light redecorating of the church on June 26, 2004. The request was approved with the agreement that three Session members, Ellen Walsh, Chris Holman, and Jim LaVeck, also attend.
  3. Strategy Report: Reverend Doyel reported that the Strategy Committee will be meeting again in June.
  4. Clerk’s Report: The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Reverend Doyel presented the following list of correspondence and items of interest: U.S. Department of Education letter of land use; Corporation papers to be renewed; memorial gift from Pauline Garman in memory of her friend Virginia Linkous of Coco Presbyterian Church, Coco ,FL; transfer of membership request for Christine Lambert Chamberlain from the Cedar City Presbyterian Church, Cedar City, UT; and request for baptism of Kalani Corpuz, godson of Chris and Jennifer Holman.
  5. Treasurer’s Report: Approved as written.
  6. Unfinished Business: none
  7. Pastor’s Report: Vacation Dates and study leave dates were submitted and approved. Most of the Sundays have been covered. The Reverend Doyel requested that all committee chairs begin work on next year’s budget. He would like it to be finalized by the October meeting. Church Corporation papers were renewed.
  8. Organizational Items: none
  9. Church and Community Reports: Scouts are looking for new members; a request was made to receive a Scout activities calendar beginning in the fall.
  10. Daytimers: none
  11. Committee Reports: Stewardship and Finance–report was approved as presented; Christian Education–the three children to receive Bibles would like them presented to them during the second service on June 6. Vacation Bible School will be held during the second or third week of July. Building and Operations–the insurance papers from the recent break-ins will be submitted soon. Lost items will soon be replaced. We’ve been having problems with the air conditioner. Personnel–none. Nominations– 3 Elders and 4 Deacons will be needed, and 4 Congregation members are needed to serve on the nominating committee in 2005. Worship–we are working to replace the microphones. Directional Microphones are being considered, as well as a cordless microphone to pass during Prayers of the People. The lay leader class was well represented and received. The Memorial Day service is also Pentecost. Wear red. Karen Rood and Sue Lednicky will make red, white, and blue ribbons to pass out. Membership–the website is up and functional. It looks wonderful. Chris is requesting photos to add to the site. He distributed a photo release form that must be signed by subjects of photos before they can be used. He is also looking for someone willing to take on the responsibility of doing the newsletter in a manner that is more "web friendly." Mission–the Peace Making offering will be held October 3, 2004. There will also be a special Pentecost offering on May 30. Mission trip fund raising luncheon will be held on May 23 at 12:30 p.m. Tickets purchased before the event are $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children, $10.00 when purchased at the door. Scholarships are available to those who may not otherwise be able to attend.
  12. New Business: none

The meeting was adjourned at 9:03 p.m. with prayer. The next session meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Susan Lednicky

OCTOBER 31ST HALLOWEEN IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!

School has begun, and Halloween is just around the corner. So what's next? We are getting closer to "turkey time" when the Deacons get involved in their biggest mission project-providing food baskets for the Henderson area. We are not alone! You are the real providers and we count on you!

Be prepared for lots of noise from the Deacons in the coming weeks. You will be seeing food lists posted and published for your convenience. You have been so supportive each year. With over 100 baskets last year, you did yourselves proud! What will be the number this year? The need is greater if the cars at the welfare office tell the story.

Keep your eyes peeled for the sign of the turkey…he may be looking over your shoulder. Any questions or names of families that could be a recipient of a food basket? Call the church office at 565-9684.
