You can still link your Albertson’s Preferred card to the Community Partners Program. This program gives a percentage of money spent each quarter on Albertson’s purchases to our church. Although you may have already linked your two cards, the linkage may not have been finalized. Therefore, we are asking that anyone with an Albertson’s Preferred card give the number on the back of the card to Marian Rolf at 293-0362. No names are needed—just the number!

Our church has two special funds. One is the Church Renovation Fund. This fund has been established by the Session to offset the cost of needed interior and exterior repairs and replacements. If you have questions concerning this fund, contact Building and Operations Chairman Rick Miller, and if you can help, please write "FUND" on your check and place it in the offering plate. The second fund is the New Sign Fund. This fund has been established to pay for new signage on all corners of the grounds of our church property. Approximately $10,000 will be needed for this project. If you are able to help, please put "SIGN" on your check and place it in the offering plate. For more information on this project please contact Membership Chairman Carole Null. ![]()

Seminary Intern at HPC! Welcome Lee Styer. Lee is our seminary intern. He started working with Pastor Doyel in January as part of his training to become an ordained pastor with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Lee looks forward to working with all the fine people at the church and has enjoyed meeting the congregation. He has preached here in the past and will fill in occasionally in the pulpit. The part-time internship will last until the end of this year. Lee was born and raised in eastern Washington State. He attended a small school in his hometown, focusing primarily on music. He graduated from Whitworth College with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and Music Performance. Lee has a Masters of Education degree in Computers in Education from Lesley College. He has been a music teacher in the public schools in the western states and is currently the music teacher at Robert Taylor Elementary School (next door to HPC). After working with Amazing Grace Ministry for several years, Lee was commissioned as a lay pastor by the Presbytery of Nevada in 2003. Being called into full-time pastoral ministry, he enrolled at Fuller Theological Seminary in the Masters of Divinity Degree Program in the fall of 2004. He also is an Inquirer with the Presbyterian Church (USA) as he works toward ordination. Lee hopes to complete the M. Div. Degree by the summer of 2009. Lee and his wife, Linda, have two grown children.

Often called the "white-robed apostles of hope," lilies are said to have been found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ's agony. Tradition has it that the beautiful white blooms sprung up where drops of Christ's sweat fell to the ground in his final hours of sorrow and deep distress. At Easter time, churches bank their altars and surround their crosses with masses of Easter lilies to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and hope of life everlasting.
A mark of purity and grace throughout the ages, the regal white lily is a fitting symbol of the greater meaning of Easter. Gracing millions of homes and churches, the flowers embody joy, hope and life. Whether given as a gift or enjoyed in your own home, the Easter lily serves as a beautiful reminder that Easter is a time for rejoicing and celebrating.
Caring for Easter Lilies
The most popular lily species to grow indoors is the Easter lily. The tall stems grow to two feet or more and the white six-inch, trumpet-shaped blooms are heavily scented. The average lily with one stem has four to six flowers. A "double nosed" or two stemmed plant may have as many as twelve buds. The shorter and more compact plants are usually preferred.
Easter lilies are beautiful plants and with some helpful maintenance suggestions, an Easter lily can last well beyond the Easter season.
Over-watering is one of the biggest problems when caring for these plants. Determine when to water by feeling the soil surface. When it is dry to the touch, add water until it runs through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Let it drain. If foil decorates the pot, punch holes in the material to allow excess water to drain. After watering, discard excess water in the saucer to prevent root rot.
To get best results with a lily, place it in bright light away from direct sun light. Temperature in the daytime should average 60 to 70 degrees and about 60 degrees at night.
Remove spent flowers from the plant as soon as possible. When new buds open, remove the yellow anthers bearing the pollen. This keeps the white trumpet clean and prolongs the life of the flower.
When the last flower of the Easter lily plant has faded, remove it from the pot. Plant on the east or north side of the house in a semi-shady area where drainage is good.
Leave the stem attached to the plant until new shoots start coming up from the base. Then, cut the stem off at the soil line.
When given proper care, the Easter lily should become a permanent part of the garden. It will flower each summer. For more information on Easter lilies or other gardening questions, contact the Cooperative Extension at 222-3130.
