Our guest speaker is the Moderator of our Nevada Presbytery and member of the South Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Church, Lila Dusing. Lila and her husband live in Incline Village, Nevada. She is an Elder and former professor of speech at Cal State, Northbridge. It is an honor to have her in our pulpit. The Presbytery will then meet for the next three days at our church. All of you are invited to the meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, but especially the worship service on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.

Here is a recipe for a special St. Patrick’s Day treat.

MAGIC LEPRECHAUN PIE
Ingredients:
1 large box pistachio pudding mix
2 cups 1% milk
1-8 oz. Cool Whip
Individual graham cracker crusts
|

Directions:
Mix pistachio pudding mix and milk according to package directions. Add Cool Whip and mix well. Spoon the mixture into individual graham cracker crusts for little pies the family will love. Refrigerate about 30 minutes and then eat. Keep any uneaten pies in the refrigerator, covered.

Session Meeting Minutes
January 17, 2006
The Session met in quorum in the Fireside Room at Henderson Presbyterian Church. The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:02 p.m. by the Moderator, Rev. Ross Doyel. Active Elders present were Fred Cox, Jim LaVeck, Sue Lednicky, Tom Mack, Rick Miller, Howard Null, Becky Sell, Ellen Walsh, and Sandy Willson. Chris Holman was excused. Carolyn LaVeck, Deacon Representative, was also present.
- Opening Prayer_ Mission Yearbook:
Reverend Doyel opened the meeting with prayer.
- Deacons Report:
Approved.
- Clerk’s Report:
The minutes of the November 15, November 22, and December 4, 2005, meetings were approved. The following correspondence and items of interest were read:
- Anonymous donation in the amount of $10,000 to be broken down as follows:
- $7,200 – Deacons (to be distributed as needed by Rev. Doyel)
- $1,800 – Financial Secretary
- $1,000 – Local Mission (perhaps Angel Tree)
Session voted to accept terms of donation.
- Invitation to attend the installation of Dana Joye Boes as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas.
- Check in the amount of $2,105.20 from ART Insurance Service.
- Check from Albertsons in the amount of $403.87.
- Letter from Gallagher Bassett Services regarding an insurance claim against HPC.
- Letter from S.A.F.E. House in thanks for our donation.
- Letter from Henderson Police Department regarding the TRAK system.
- September and December 2005 Sierra Scroll.
The clerk read the following items that need to be accomplished by the Session into the minutes as a reminder of Session requirements for the upcoming year. The Session must:
- Review our rolls annually
- Hold a joint meeting with Deacons annually
- Review Deacons records annually
- Session and Deacons both need to meet at least quarterly
- Establish the term of and elect the clerk of session
- Authorize all Baptisms
- Confer with newly elected officers
- Appoint a day for the service of installation of officers
- Pastor’ study leave must be approved by session
- The Lord’s Supper must be served at least quarterly
- The Lord’s Supper must be served by an ordained officer or members authorized by session
- The Lord’s Supper must be served to those isolated from worship by members authorized by session
- Treasurer’s Report:
Tabled for further clarification. Session requested that the Treasurer’s Report be revised to show expenditures for items actually budgeted and that it show separate operating budget and capital items.
- Unfinished Business:
Elections were held, and the following people will serve as indicated for the next year: Sandy Willson, Clerk; Tom Mack, Nominations; Rick Miller, Building and Operations; Rick Miller, Personnel; Chris Holman, Membership Chair; Howard Null, Membership; Fred Cox, Stewardship and Finance; Rick Miller, Scouting Representative; Jim LaVeck and Ellen Walsh, Presbytery Representatives (primary) and Carolyn LaVeck and Barbara Sylvis (alternates); Jim LaVeck, Worship; Ellen Walsh, Mission; and Becky Sell, Christian Education with Laura Wagner serving as the Youth Elder. Serving as Officers of the Congregation will be Rick Miller, President; Rob Bumann, Treasurer; Sandy Willson, Secretary; and Sue Lednicky, Trustee. The Session representative to the nominating committee will be Jim LaVeck and Sandy Willson will chair any sexual misconduct proceedings.
- Pastor’s Report:
Ordination of Elders and Deacons will be held on January 22, 2006. No change in vacation and study leave dates. We need as much volunteer help as possible during the time we are hosting Presbytery in March. Joint Session/Deacons meeting to be held earlier this year, perhaps in October to hopefully discuss our upcoming 50th anniversary in 2007 and what kind of building we want to build, if any. Reverend Doyel would like to see more and better functioning committees. Reverend Doyel will be traveling extensively due to his new Presbytery duties.
- Church and Community Reports:
Daytimers – None. Scouts – Jason Williams’ has completed his Eagle project. The annual Church/Scout clean up will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Reverend Doyel was elected as the Institutional Representative for Scouts.
- Committee Reports:
Stewardship and Finance – None. Christian Education – Becky Sell will be taking over Christian Education. Sue Lednicky will provide Becky with a list of what has been done in the past. Building and Operations – Rick Miller gave a report on changes and upgrades that will be made prior to the Spring ’06 Presbytery meeting, i.e., carpet has been ordered, new doors will be installed, and lighting is being changed. We need to consider storage options. Personnel - None. Nominations - None. Worship - We need to make an effort to get Communion out to shut-ins. Membership – None. Mission – The date for Youth Sunday has not been set yet. Session approved a motion to reimburse Chris and Jennifer Holman for picking up the tab on additional angels that came in for our Angel Tree Mission, upon presentation of receipt from the Holmans. The amount is approximately $1,000 and will be covered by the anonymous donation listed previously.
- New Business:
None.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. with prayer. The next Session meeting will be held on February 21, 2006, at 7:00 p.m.
